Well, you've heard me tell it before - Stuart's professor gave him a free two-night stay and restaurant gift certificate for an inn that he owns on Roanoke Island in the Outer Banks. We finally used it a week ago and we are so glad we went! We had such a great time!
Stuart picked me up from school on Friday and we headed out of town. The drive took longer than expected because of traffic, so we didn't arrive until around 8:00. I wanted to take a quick shower before heading out to dinner, which is ironic... because that shower ended up being the reason we ate at Pizza Hut. Roanoake is a very small island that caters to tourists, but during the off-season, everything shuts down early. Super early. Early enough that by the time we left the hotel at 8:45, there was nowhere to go. So, Pizza Hut to the rescue! We spent the rest of the night relaxing so we'd be well-rested for the next day.
On Saturday, we spent most of our time walking around "downtown" Manteo - an area about 2 blocks big! Despite it's size, downtown offered quite a few shops that were really interesting, so we had a great time just looking around. We ended up really enjoying the antiques store, where we bought a poster that advertises luggage in French. It fits perfectly in the office! We lazed around in a few hammocks for a while and loved the swing hammocks so much that we bought one! We had lunch at a little cafe and even had time for a nap! Then we had time to head to the beach for a bit before our dinner reservations. It was entirely too cold to swim or even think about heading toward the water, but we wanted the beautiful scenery and a nice walk in the sand. As we walked to the beach, we ran into two teachers (husband and wife) from my school and had a nice chat with them. What a small world!!! The beach was definitely beautiful, as the sun was starting to set. After a nice walk, we headed back to the inn for dinner. The restaurant was a great experience too - we had a really wonderful meal and didn't pay for any of the food!!! If only that could be a regular thing... :) We left Sunday morning and settled back into the reality of work on Monday.

Hammock time!
Stuart was loving the antique store finds!
I'm so happy you guys got to go! Yay, Stuart for winning! These pictures are beautiful...is this a new camera?
ReplyDeleteThanks Lara! The camera isn't "new" really, but we just got it last Christmas. Just a Sony Cybershot, but it takes great photos.
ReplyDeleteCourtney ... We walked by this Inn while at the Outerbanks. We ate at the Full Moon Cafe when we drove into town and the Hungry Pelican one afternoon. We also went to Festival Park with the kids which was so fun! Glad you all had a relaxing time.
